Originally from Seattle, Washington, Los Angeles based guitarist Max Walker brings a fiery tenacity to the bandstand that is uniquely his own, but builds from a deep well of musical influences. After receiving his undergraduate degree in jazz guitar performance at Cornish College of the Arts, Walker has made a name for himself as both a band leader and a sideman in Seattle. After relocating to Los Angeles, Walker attended the University of Southern California, and received a Masters degree in jazz guitar in Spring 2023. Walker’s talent has led him to play with some of the best acts in Seattle including the Jim Knapp Orchestra, national touring act Biddadat, and bassist Chuck Deardorph among countless others. Walker released his first record as a band leader, Stygia, in September 2020 alongside his trio of Tim Carey on bass and Remy Morritt on drums. His sophomore release, Chronostasis, was recorded in 2021 and has yet to be released.
Max Walker's debut album "Stygia" unites a fervent study of Jazz legends such as Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter, a wide span of stylistic influences, and a deep love for the craft of guitar playing. The end result presents a band leader that has clearly done his homework, but is not afraid to dive head first into new and exciting sonic territories.
